PULLMAN - After spending three seasons backing up Luke Falk and Gardner Minshew, redshirt senior Anthony Gordon is getting the starting nod for the Cougars to open the season.
Head coach Mike Leach confirmed Gordon will start in week one as No. 23 WSU hosts New Mexico State at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Gordon, who transferred to WSU from the City College of San Francisco, has appeared in just two games with five career pass attempts for the Cougars.
Gordon earned the starting job over redshirt senior Trey Tinsley and graduate transfer Gage Gubrud, who was granted a sixth year of eligibility after an injury ended his final season at Eastern Washington.
Despite the lack of game experience, Gordon has a loaded and experienced wide receiver corps considered to one of the top in the country, with Easop Winston Jr, Dezmon Patmon, Jamire Calvin Jr, Calvin Jackson Jr, Tay Martin Jr, Renard Bell and Travell Harris all returning.
