Sportsman's burglary

MOSES LAKE - An Odessa man who reportedly tried to force his way into Sportsman’s Warehouse in Moses Lake early Wednesday morning was found by police on the roof of the building.

Jacob Schmidt, 29, was booked into Grant County Jail on attempted burglary charges.

Moses Lake police responded just before 5 a.m. to the business on North Stratford Road after reports of a man on the roof. Surveillance video reportedly shows Schmidt trying to pry open a door on top of the building.

Officers arrived and located Schmidt still on the roof.

“Schmidt was cooperative but had no way to get off the roof, so officers had no choice but to wake up their good friends at the Moses Lake Fire Department,” Moses Lake police stated.

Moses Lake firefighters arrived and used a ladder truck to allow officers to reach the roof and contact the suspect. Schmidt was escorted down the ladder and taken into custody.
