EPHRATA- When it comes to the Columbia Basin River Dogs, June isn’t about winning games as much as it is building chemistry. The River Dogs this year look potent out of the gate, after going 2-1-2 in their opening tournament, the High Desert Classic.
During the tournament, the River Dogs played the Spokane Crew twice and tied with them once, 1-1 and beat them the second time, 8-6. They tied with the Federal Way Knights 9-9 and beat Diamond Jaxx II 16-2, their only loss came from the hands of the Tri Cities Reign 4-3.
Their first time out as a unit, the River Dogs are showing the have plenty of firepower on offense, scoring eight runs or more in three of their games. They also showed they have plenty of defense, allowing less than five runs in three of the five games.
“We were missing four or five guys so everyone got to play,” Coach Randy Boruff said. “Obviously, we’re a very talented team and we’re gonna be very good by the end of the year. Nine of the 14 guys can throw and when we’re all here hitting on all cylinders we’ll be a very competitive team.”
The River Dogs will host another High Desert Classic in Ephrata this weekend. Lakeside Recovery, the Outlaws and Mt. Spokane will all be in attendance to this weekend’s tournament.
