MOSES LAKE – Police dash cam video during a pursuit early Wednesday morning in Moses Lake shows the suspects’ vehicle briefly go airborne after going through a fence and hitting a jump at the BMX track.
Randy James, 20, has been charged in Grant County Superior Court with felony eluding. Moses Lake police say more charges are expected. Charges for the second suspect, Daniel Tudor, 18, were not available on Thursday.
Moses Lake police initially attempted to stop the suspects’ vehicle near Peninsula Drive, claiming James failed to use his turn signal. James then allegedly sped up, leading to a pursuit along neighborhood roads and onto West Broadway Avenue.
Police say James eventually turned back toward Peninsula Drive before reaching a dead end at the entrance to the BMX track next to the Larson Recreation Center. James allegedly drove through a fence before driving over one of the dirt jumps. The car went airborne before getting stuck when it struck another jump.
James reportedly jumped out the driver’s side window and led officers on a foot chase for about two minutes through several yards.
Tudor reportedly also fled on foot and jumped a fence into a storage unit facility. Grant County sheriff’s deputies later found him hiding on a roof at the facility, according to court records.
A third occupant in the car was contacted and released. He reportedly told officer James fled from the traffic stop because “James had been drinking” and had an outstanding warrant.
Along with an open bottle of beer, a bag with suspected heroin and another bag with marijuana, police also reportedly found a stolen firearm and ammunition in James’ vehicle.
James has five felony convictions to include possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding, trafficking stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and a community custody violation.
