OLYMPIA - According to the Washington State Employment Security Department, registered nurse, commercial driving and retail sales jobs are the leading occupations in Grant, Douglas and Chelan counties.

The state agency released its employer demand reports which are a group of four monthly reports that reflect the top 25 skill sets and certifications that employers are looking for in workers, as well as the top 25 occupations and employers.

Where does the data come from? The agency says the reports are based on the Help Wanted OnLine data series from the Conference Board, which provides a measure of real-time labor demand gathered from online job ads.

For occupations, the agency provides the most recent, single month of information based on a consistent time series from the Help Wanted OnLine data (HWOL). For employers, the report provides the most recent four months of data from the HWOL data series compared to the previous year.

In Grant County, registered nursing positions are the top occupation with 50 job postings, and 11 new job listings. The average salary is $78,861. Heavy and truck trailer drivers are the second listed top occupation in the county, with 49 total job listings and 26 new positions being listed. The average salary is $45,680. Nursing assistants took the third spot, with 36 job listings and 17 new listings. The average salary being $29,387. 

In the county, the top 5 hard skills are Freight, Microsoft Office, Tractor-Trailers, bilingual, and forklifts. Freight leads with 700 hard skill listings. Hard skills are teachable abilities or skill sets that are easy to quantify. Typically, you'll learn hard skills in the classroom, through books or other training materials, or on the job. In the county, the five certifications are Class A Commercial Drivers License, Commercial Driver's License, a standard drivers license, and HAZMAT certification.

Based on online ads, the top five employers in Grant County are Samaritan Healthcare, Genesis HealthCare, Wahluke School District, and Big Bend Community College and JR Simplot.

Samaritan Healthcare, the top employer in the county, had 84 job ads, an increase from just 29 the previous year. Genesis Healthcare made the second spot with 79 job ads, an increase from 16 the previous year.

The Wahluke School District made the third spot with 64 job listings, a difference from 59 listings last year. Big Bend Community College made the list with 62 job listings, an increase from 51 job listings the previous year. 

JR Simplot took fifth with 49 job listings, a slight decrease from 55 online ads the previous year.

In Chelan County, RN positions are the top occupation with 145 job postings, and 45 new job listings. The average salary is $78,861. Nursing assistants are the second listed top occupation in the county, with 51 total job listings and 18 new positions being listed. The average salary is $29,387. Heavy and truck trailer drivers took the third spot, with 47 job listings and 23 new listings. The average salary being $45,680.

In the county, the top 5 hard skills are Freight, Password Management, Patient Electronic Medical Record, Microsoft Office, and Quality Assurance. Freight leads with 284 hard skill listings.

In the county, the five certifications are standard Drivers License, Basic Life Support, Class A Commercial Drivers License, Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and a Commercial Drivers License.

Based on online ads, the top five employers in Chelan County are Central Washington Hospital, Confluence Health, Wenatchee Valley Hospital, Prestige Care Inc, and Avanade.

Central Washington Hospital, the top employer in Chelan county, had 280 job ads, an increase from 107 the previous year. Confluence Health made the second spot with 270 job ads, a massive decrease from 655 listings the previous year.

Wenatchee Valley Hospital made the third spot with 115 job listings, a difference from 82 listings last year. Prestige Care Inc made the list with 95 job listings, an increase from 23 job listings the previous year.

Avanade took fifth with 73 job listings, a massive increase from zero online ads the previous year.

In Douglas County, First-Line Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers is the top occupation with 23 job postings, and 0 new job listings. The average salary is $44,479. Retail Salespersons is the second listed top occupation in the county, with 22 total job listings and 2 new positions being listed. The average salary is $31,090. Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers took the third spot, with 9 job listings and 3 new listings. The average salary being $45,680.

In the county, the top 5 hard skills are Freight, Tractor Trailers, Android, Asset Protection, and Microsoft Office. Freight+ leads with 202 hard skill listings. 

In Douglas County, the five certifications are Class A Commercial Drivers License, Commercial Driver's License, a standard drivers license, and Tanker and Hazmat Endorsement.

Based on online ads, the top five employers in Douglas County are Macy's, Costco Wholesale Corporation, Prestige Care Inc, ResCare, and Fred Meyer.

Macy's, the top employer in the county, had 21 job ads, a slight increase from 19 ads the previous year. Costco Wholesale Corporation made the second spot with 19 job ads, which remained unchanged from the previous year.

Prestige Care Inc made the third spot with 18 job listings, a difference from just 7 listings last year. ResCare made the list with 17 job listings, an increase from 6 job listings the previous year.

Fred Meyer took fifth with 16 job listings, an increase from 5 online ads the previous year.
