ROYAL CITY – Jonathan Torres, already a suspect in two November shootings, is accused of shooting and killing his father, who was found dead early Wednesday morning.

Law enforcement responded about 1:30 a.m. to a home in the 400 block of Juniper Circle and found 58-year-old Jesus Torres Flores dead inside an SUV in the driveway, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Jonathan Torres was reportedly riding in the back seat of the SUV, driven by his mother, with his father in the front passenger seat. Jonathan Torres then allegedly shot his father in the head while the vehicle was traveling somewhere near O’Sullivan Reservoir.

The mother then drove to the family’s home on Juniper Circle in Royal City where 911 was called, according to the sheriff’s office.

Jonathan Torres was booked into Grant County Jail for murder in the first degree. Jonathan and his brother, Jesus Torres, are both suspects in a Nov. 14 shooting, also on Juniper Circle, that left a 44-year-old man injured, as well as a Nov. 24 shooting along Hansen Road and Interstate 90 that left two men injured.

Jesus Torres, charged with two counts of assault in the first degree and drive-by shooting in the Nov. 24 shooting, was released from jail Tuesday afternoon after a judge did not find probable cause for the charges.

“This is a heartbreaking turn of events, and detectives will be committing their fullest attention to this investigation to prepare a solid case for prosecution,” Sheriff Tom Jones said.
