OTHELLO - Grant County K9 Grizzly helped put an end to an about two-hour long standoff with a domestic violence suspect Sunday evening near Othello.

Adams County deputies, along with a Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Officer and Grant County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit, attempted to contact 53-year-old James L. Ewing at his home on Rainier Road. Prior to the attempted contact, a woman traveled to the Othello Police Department to report alleged domestic violence involving Ewing, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Ewing refused to exit his home for about two hours. A search warrant was approved for the residence and K9 Grizzly located Ewing in a bedroom.

Ewing sustained a bite from Grizzly and was taken to Othello Community Hospital for treatment. Ewing was later booked into Adams County Jail for second-degree assault-domestic violence, second-degree malicious mischief-domestic violence, second-degree theft-domestic violence, interfering with reporting of domestic violence and resisting arrest.
