MATTAWA - A 65-year-old man has died from injuries sustained in an Aug. 1 collision on state Route 24, east of Mattawa, that also left a 15-year-old dead.
Mesa resident Kenneth R. Crawford died Monday afternoon at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Early in the morning on Aug. 1, Crawford was driving a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser west on SR 24, about 16 miles east of Mattawa, when his car was hit head-on by a Honda Fit driven by 18-year-old Mattawa resident Felix Rangel Diaz. Witnesses told state troopers Rangel Diaz had already passed several vehicles and was attempting to pass two semi-trucks when the collision occurred.
Crawford and his passenger, 62-year-old Karen Crawford, were both seriously injured and airlifted to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland. Kenneth Crawford was later transferred to Harborview Medical Center.
Rangel Diaz was taken by ambulance to the Richland hospital. His passenger, 15-year-old Gisella Morales, died at the scene.
Detectives with the state patrol continue to investigate the collision.
