MOSES LAKE - A man reportedly stole two vehicles and attempted to steal a third while being chased by law enforcement Wednesday morning.

Jaret Hester, a 25-year-old Edmonds man, was booked into Grant County Jail for felony eluding, vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle and a DOC warrant, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

Hester reportedly crashed a stolen 2018 Honda along Road U Southeast near Warden. A passerby stopped to help around 11:15 a.m. and Hester reportedly stole their vehicle and made his way onto I-90 westbound.

Grant County deputies and Moses Lake police headed to I-90 near state Route 17 where an officer spotted the stolen 2000 Ford Excursion exit into SR 17 heading into Moses Lake, according to the sheriff’s office.

Hester reportedly led police on a brief chase, where he sped through the Shari’s restaurant parking lot and into a field. Deputies say the SUV became stuck in about a foot and a half of water. Hester then ran west, crossing SR 17 and ending up at West Coast Auto Sales, where he allegedly tried to steal another car before being taken into custody along Maiers Road.

Hester was taken to Samaritan Hospital before being booked into Jail.

Deputies say drug use is suspected and the Grant County Traffic Safety Team is also investigating Hester for DUI.
