QUINCY - A 71-year-old Spokane man has been identified as the tour bus driver who died Friday morning in a collision involving a Quincy school bus.
Sheriff’s office officials say Sidney Austin was killed in the wreck on White Trail Road.
At about 9 a.m., a Quincy School District bus, driven by 56-year-old Ephrata resident Jacqueline Mora, was stopped in the westbound lane of White Trial Road (Road 5 Northwest), picking up a student. The bus was rear-ended by a 2006 Jeep Liberty, driven by 19-year-old East Wenatchee resident Jocelyn Gutierrez, according to the sheriff’s office.
Gutierrez moved the Jeep off the road and into a driveway. The school bus remained in the westbound lane, where it was then rear-ended by a westbound 2005 Prevost tour bus, driven by Austin, who died at the scene.
All 26 students and Mora were taken to Quincy Valley Medical Center for evaluation. Students were also reunited with their parents at the hospital.
Injured occupants on the tour bus were also taken to the Quincy hospital.
Gutierrez also had non-life threatening injuries.
Sheriff’s office officials say all drivers involved were wearing seatbelts.
The collision remains under investigation. Officials say dense fog in the area was a factor.
Quincy School District was on a two-hour delay Friday for icy roads and hazardous conditions.
