MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake police reportedly interrupted a carjacking in progress Friday afternoon, leading to arrests of two suspects.
Officers were driving on West Marina Drive when they came across a woman trying to stop a car from leaving. The woman was reportedly being dragged down the street by the vehicle, according to Moses Lake police.
Officers activated their emergency lights just as the woman fell off the car and hit the ground. The vehicle then stopped and a passenger, identified as Ruben Sabedra, 30, attempted to walk away.
“When confronted, he turned and took an aggressive stance toward one of the detectives, causing himself to be quickly tackled and taken into custody,” Capt. Mike Williams stated.
Sabedra was booked into Grant County Jail for a Department of Corrections warrant.
The driver of the car, Miguel Chavez Amezque, who was in a relationship with the female victim, reportedly drove off and continued onto Commerce Street where he ditched the car and ran into a business, according to Moses Lake police.
“With the help of the employees and an application of a 40mm less lethal tear gas projectile, Chavez Amezqua was taken into custody,” Williams stated.
Chavez Amezqua was booked into jail for robbery in the first degree-domestic violence, felony eluding and an outstanding felony warrant. The vehicle was returned to the victim.
