OTHELLO – J.J. Martinez has resigned from his position as Othello High School’s girls wrestling coach and Parapro. Martinez’s decision comes following an internal investigation into sexual misconduct accusations involving he and a female wrestler on the high school team.
Othello School District Superintendent Chris Hurst confirmed the news on Thursday.
“Our district takes any matter of concern voiced by staff, students, or parents very seriously,” Superintendent Chris Hurst said.
In mid-February, Martinez was placed on paid administrative leave and an investigation promptly began after a concerned Othello school district employee brought forth the allegations.
The Othello Police Department was also summoned to investigate the matter. Hurst says some evidence was found but not enough to support the allegations.
In light of the investigation, Martinez elected to step down from both positions, resigning from the school district on March 8, 2019.
The Othello Police Department’s investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
