MOSES LAKE - A potential long-term shutdown of REC Silicon in Moses Lake has been delayed until July 15.
The company had previously announce the facility would be shutdown by June 30 if access to the polysilicon markets in China were not restored. The company’s board of directors had decided to delay the shutdown, allowing REC Silicon the time necessary to evaluate any developments in the trade war between the U.S. and China.
Talks are expected between the U.S. and China at the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan June 28 and 29.
Production at the Moses Lake facility was halted in mid-May. Company officials previously stated a long-term shutdown would result in layoffs of the remaining workforce in Moses Lake.
