UW Bus Crash

QUINCY - The Quincy and George communities stepped up in a major way when a bus carrying the University of Washington Marching Band crashed on Thanksgiving. On Sunday, the band and spirit squad are holding a thank you celebration in Quincy.

The celebration starts at 3 p.m. at Quincy High School gymnasium and includes a performance by the marching band and Quincy students, remarks from UW President Ana Mari Cauce, a video message from UW Athletics, and special recognition of first responders and community members.

A free barbecue will also be provided after the event.

Close to 50 band members were injured when their charter bus rolled on Thanksgiving day on Interstate 90 near George, leaving the band stranded instead of continuing their trip to Pullman for the Apple Cup.

Community members and Quincy School District staff stepped up. George Elementary was opened for the band, which was treated to a Thanksgiving meal by community members, school cafeteria staff and food donations from a local business.

Parents and alumni of the Husky Marching Band has already donated more than 70 packages of various schools supplies to the Quincy School District as a way to thank the community.
