Cosmic Crisp

WENATCHEE - Washington’s newest apple variety, Cosmic Crisp, will finally hit store shelves in December after 20 years of research and development.

The first crop of Cosmic Crisp will be picked this fall. The apple is a combo of the Enterprise apple and Honeycrisp apple. The Cosmic Crisp is not as vulnerable to diseases as other varieties. The apple is bred to be good for cooking and eating and doesn't bruise as fast as other apples.

Growers describe the fruit as “sweet and juicy” with a slight tartness. Cosmic Crisp will be a Washington-only apple until 2027. Stemilt is at least one known local grower who is cultivating the tree fruit.
