EPHRATA – Wanapum Village may soon be for sale by the Grant County Public Utility District.
The PUD Board of Commissioners is currently considering options regarding the dozen houses the district owns in the area between Beverly and the base of the Wanapum Dam.
“This is something the district’s been considering since about 2010. We’ve completed renovations on other residential buildings adjacent to the dam and the village homes are now surplus,” said PUD Public and Government Affairs Manager Thomas Stredwick.
Stredwick said the Wanapum Village homes are approximately 50 to 60 years old. Despite its name, the Wanapum tribe does not live in the area and Stredwick said selling the property would not have a cultural or historical impact.
The PUD does not have an exact timetable on when the properties might go up for sale or an estimated revenue amount the sale would generate. Stredwick said he anticipates the board could make a decision by the end of the year.
