MOSES LAKE – Juan Jesus Garcia, a 22-year-old Moses Lake man, was shot and killed in an SUV at the Airport Grocery Mart on Patton Boulevard Tuesday night.

Grant County deputies were responding to a 9-1-1 call about gunshots at 6:34 p.m. when they found the victim, according to spokesman Kyle Foreman.

Garcia was sitting in an SUV in the parking lot when he was fatally shot.

A 23-year-old woman was in the front seat and a 6-year-old boy in the back seat at the time of the shooting. Neither the woman or the boy were injured during the shooting, but were traumatized, according to Undersheriff Dave Ponozzo.

Airport Grocery Mart is near Big Bend Community College and Job Corps.

A suspect vehicle had fled the scene and was quickly located in the Cascade Valley, but no one was inside the vehicle.

Law enforcement is now looking for Anthony R. Vasquez, a 23-year-old man, described as standing 5 foot, 5 inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, according to the sheriff’s office.

He was last seen wearing white shorts, white tank top and a black and white baseball cap.

Deputies were searching for him in the area of Valley Road and Ottmar Road near Moses Lake late Tuesday night.

Vasquez was reported to be a gang member. He was shot and injured at a home on Sunny Drive in 2009. The shooting was gang related, according to Moses Lake police at the time.

In April of 2010 Vasquez was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and for making a false statement. He was one of five people in a car pulled over by the US Marshal's Office in Moses Lake.

Patton Boulevard was closed between Randolph Road and Craig Street as investigators worked at the crime scene.

The sheriff’s office asks that anyone seeing Vasquez should not contact him and should call 9-1-1.

If anyone has information about where Vasquez is or about the crime, they are asked to call the sheriff's office at 509-754-2100 extension 468 or email information to crimetips@co.grant.wa.us. People providing information can remain anonymous.
