NEWPORT – iFIBER Communications is working to help people affected by storms in Pend Oreille County.
About 500 people are still without power after an Aug. 2 storm damaged power lines throughout the county.
The company is setting up an Internet and phone station in its Newport office to assist people with contacting family and friends, or who need to conduct important business and need immediate Internet access, according to the company.
The Newport office is located at 111 W. Pine St. Regular office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“The (Pend Oreille County) PUD currently is doing a brilliant job of repairing the electrical system and the fiber network, but we still have customers that are out of service and have been for a while because of the storms, so this is the least we can do,” iFIBER’s Chief Executive Office Kelly Ryan stated.
The office is providing wireless access all the time and plans to have a computer available for people in the office during normal business hours.
The company will provide the service to people who aren’t customers, and will have tables, chairs and refreshments available, Ryan stated.
“iFIBER is part of this community and will do everything that it can to work with the PUD to resorve service to its customers,” Ryan stated.
iFIBER Communications is the parent company of iFIBER One News.
