WARDEN - A live missile warhead was unearthed Thursday at the site of a 1955 military aircraft crash near Warden.
A retired U.S. Air Force veteran and historian was searching the site where a F-86D Sabre crashed June 27, 1955. While digging around, the man found a live 2.75 inch missile warhead, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Office.
The Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal responded and rendered the warhead safe through a controlled explosion.
No injuries were reported.
The 1955 crash killed First Lt. Jack B. Englander during a routine training flight out of Larson Air Force Base.
