MOSES LAKE – Police helped solve a custody dispute that revolved around the mother’s boyfriend practicing witchcraft.

Officers were set to a home on East Oasis Circle on Aug. 7 after a woman called 9-1-1 and reported the father wouldn’t return their 12-year-old daughter, according to police records.

Police spoke to the father and his mother, who both claimed the mother’s home was unsafe and accused the mother and her boyfriend of committing crimes. Three female relatives and friends of the father came to the scene to reiterate the accusations.

“Nobody was able to articulate specific crimes associated with the ideology,” wrote one officer. “Nobody on scene was able to articulate specific reasons (to remove the daughter) besides the religious views of the (boyfriend). All parties were advised that religion was constitutionally protected.”

Both parents knew the daughter was living with the father for several months. Police stated she was not listed as a runaway and the girl left with her mother.

Police told everyone that if they believe the child to be in danger, they can call Child Protective Services.
