WALLA WALLA – Big Bend was swept by Walla Walla in a doubleheader Thursday to open Northwest Athletic Conference East Region play.
The Vikings came into Thursday with a 12-2 record in non-conference games, winning seven of their last eight.
Big Bend lost game one to Walla Walla 6-5 in 12 innings and game two 8-2.
The Vikings had a chance to take the lead in the 12th inning of game one after a double from Nathan English with one out. Cody Banks and Auggie Francis both flied out to leave English stranded at second.
Walla Walla’s Colton Peha drove in the winning run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single.
Big Bend starting pitcher Tyler Winkler threw seven innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in his no-decision.
Down 1-0 in the top of the second in game two, Big Bend took a 2-1 lead on a solo home run from Seth Reisbeck and an RBI single from Banks.
Walla Walla tied the game in the bottom of the inning, and broke the tie with two runs in the third and a four-run inning in the sixth.
Vikings starting pitcher Parker Stohr allowed four runs, three earned over five innings of work.
Big Bend returns home to face Yakima Valley in a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game starts at 1 p.m.
