WENATCHEE – Early leads helped Big Bend baseball sweep a doubleheader against Wenatchee Valley on Wednesday.
The Vikings collected 17 hits in their 12-5 game one win.
Big Bend opened up a 3-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles from Seth Reisbeck and Rich Hekker.
The Vikings took a 7-1 lead into the seventh inning before adding three more runs in the inning and two more in the ninth.
Reisbeck finished the game 3 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Cody Banks continued to swing a hot bat going 2 for 4 with a triple and four runs scored.
Big Bend starting pitcher Kaleb Whitlock earned the win, throwing five and one-third innings, allowing just one run and scattering four hits.
Big Bend’s offense continued to roll in an 8-4 game two win in which the Vikings again reached double-digit hits. Banks finished the game going 3 for 4, including a sixth inning solo home run. Banks ended with two RBIs and three runs scored.
The Vikings again scored early, going up 4-0 in the first, including a bases-clearing triple from Nate Ball with the bases loaded. Big Bend added three runs in the fourth before Banks’ home run in the sixth made it 8-1.
Wenatchee Valley scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Big Bend returns home Saturday for a doubleheader against Blue Mountain. First pitch for game one is set for 1 p.m.
