EVERETT – The Runnin’ Vikings season came to an end Thursday as Big Bend dropped its first game in the NWAC Tournament 78-67 to South Puget Sound.
Jai Jai Ely and Zach Shepherd led the Vikings with 17 points each while Jacob McCord added 16 points and eight rebounds in the loss.
South Puget Sound jumped out to an early 9-2 lead as Big Bend failed to make a field goal in the first five minutes of the game. A sloppy first half was filled with 23 fouls, 17 turnovers and a combined 28.5 percent shooting. The Clippers held a 30-23 lead at halftime.
Big Bend battled back and took their first lead of the game at 45-43. South Puget Sound’s Luke Chavez hit a 3-pointer with five minutes to go to give the Clippers the lead for good.
Chavez led the Clippers in scoring with 28 points.
Big Bend turned the ball over 19 times in the game, leading to 20 points off turnovers for the Clippers.
