MOSES LAKE – Big Bend baseball split a doubleheader against East Region leader Columbia Basin on Wednesday.
Cody Banks’ walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth in game one scored Daulton Kvenvold to give the Vikings a 5-4 win. Banks finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Columbia Basin scored three runs in the top of the first inning, including a leadoff home run from Isaiah Hatch.
Banks’ two-run blast in the third cut the deficit to 3-2. The Vikings added two more runs in the sixth on an RBI double from Seth Reisbeck to take one-run lead.
An error by Big Bend centerfielder Auggie Francis in the top of the ninth allowed the Hawks to tie the game 5-5. Banks single to left field in the bottom of the inning allowed Kvenvold to score the winning run from third.
The Vikings managed just five hits in game two, falling to Columbia Basin 4-1. Banks collected his 33 RBI on the season but was 0 for 4 from the plate.
Columbia Basin broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the sixth, scoring one run in the inning before adding two more in the seventh on a two-run home run from Gabe Tolrud.
Big Bend heads on the road Saturday for a doubleheader against Treasure Valley.
