MOSES LAKE – Moses Lake boys basketball held Sunnyside to just 13 second-half points in Friday night’s 74-49 win.
Zach Phillips led the Chiefs with 22 points and Gio Walker added 16 points, including a three-pointer at the buzzer in the first quarter, and 11 rebounds.
Moses Lake opened the game on an 11-4 run and led by as many as eight in the first half. Sunnyside got within one point in the first before a second 11-4 run by the Chiefs, who led 22-14 after one.
The Grizzlies kept it close behind 15 first-half points from Trey Sanchez as Moses Lake held a 40-34 lead at halftime.
An 11-0 run in the third quarter, which included a drive from Ryan Karstetter that ended with a dunk through two defenders, stretched the lead to 17 points.
The Chiefs’ defense held Sanchez to just one second-half point as their lead ballooned to 20 points early in the fourth quarter.
On Saturday, Moses Lake held on to beat Eastmont 66-63 to improve their Big 9 record to 7-2, 12-5 overall. The Chiefs currently sit in second in the Big 9 with a road matchup against West Valley on Friday.
