MOSES LAKE – After a scoreless draw against Gonzaga Prep on Friday, Moses Lake soccer scored four second-half goals in Saturday’s home opener to beat Ferris 5-3.
The Chiefs controlled possession for much of the first half on Saturday but were looking at another scoreless half until the 36th minute when Anthony Cortez buried a rebound into the back of the net.
The Moses Lake defense was able to clear the ball after two Ferris corner kicks in the closing minute of the first half to hold a 1-0 lead.
Ferris tied the game early in the second half on a goal from Max Thompson.
The Chiefs went on to score the next four goals, two from senior captain Daniel Sinchuk, to open a 5-1 lead.
Erik Vega and Tyrell Garza had the other two goals for Moses Lake.
Ferris added two goals late in the game.
Moses Lake faces Lewis and Clark in the final non-league game on Tuesday before opening Columbia Basin Big 9 play at home on Friday against Eisenhower.
