MOSES LAKE – Five turnovers in overtime were too much for Big Bend to overcome as the Vikings fell 62-55 to Wenatchee Valley Wednesday night.
Tied 47-47 with 55 seconds left in the fourth, Wenatchee Valley’s Devenee Villareal hit a shot from just inside the three-point line to give the Knights a two-point lead.
On Big Bend’s next possession, Hailey Garrity took an inbounds pass in the paint and hit the shot to tie it up 49-49.
Wenatchee Valley’s Anna Ingraham was fouled with less than a second left after collecting the offensive rebound and had two free throws to win the game but missed both to send the game into overtime.
In overtime, the Vikings took a 54-51 lead after Callie Gronning hit a runner off the glass with about a minute left. The Knights cut it to 54-53 on their next possession.
Big Bend’s fifth turnover in overtime gave Whitney Shapp a breakaway layup as Wenatchee Valley took a one point lead and held on for the victory.
Garrity finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Vikings. Gronning added 16 points in the loss where Big Bend turned it over 28 times.
The Vikings have now lost seven straight games and fall to 2-7 in the East Region, 10-12 overall.
Big Bend heads to Blue Mountain on Saturday with tipoff set for 2 p.m.
