MOSES LAKE – Moses Lake soccer nearly erased a three goal deficit in the second half but ultimately fell short, losing 5-4 to Sunnyside Friday night.
Sunnyside’s Gonzaio Frausto had three goals for the league-leading Grizzlies, who improved to 9-2, 11-2-2 overall.
The Chiefs fall to 2-9 in league play, 4-10-1 overall. Moses Lake closes out the regular season on Tuesday against West Valley.
The game was scoreless until the 27th minute when Moses Lake’s Erik Shaporda buried a shot in the upper-left corner from just inside the box.
The Chiefs’ one-goal lead lasted less than a minute when Sunnyside’s Jose Marquez evened the score on a penalty kick in the 28th minute.
Sunnyside added two more goals in the first half to go up 3-1 but the Chiefs struck early in the second half on a goal from Anthony Cortez in the 44th minute.
The Grizzlies responded with two goals from Frausto to take a 5-2 lead.
Cortez would add a second goal and an Eduardo Ramirez penalty kick brought the Chiefs to within one but Sunnyside held off a late surge to secure their fifth straight win. Moses Lake has lost five of its last six games.
