TACOMA – Moses Lake dropped their final two games to finish fifth in the 4A state tournament.

After knocking off Cams 46-36 in the quarterfinal found, the No. 2 seed Chiefs were upset by Glacier Peak in the semifinals on Friday and Bellarmine Prep in the consolation bracket on Saturday.

In Friday’s matchup, Jessica Olson continued her hot shooting in the first half, scoring 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting as Moses Lake held a four-point lead early in the second quarter. A back-and-forth second quarter ended with the Chiefs trailing 34-31.

The Chiefs were down just two heading into the fourth quarter but Glacier Peak hung on to reach the state championship game where they were defeated by Kentridge, a team Moses Lake beat in the regional round.

Olson finished with 13 points and seven rebounds in the game. Jamie Leora led the Chiefs with 14 points but shot just 5-for-19 in the game. Abby Rathbun added 13 points and six rebounds.

Moses Lake forced overtime on Saturday against Bellarmine Prep in a game that saw four ties and 10 lead changes.

Bellarmine had a 43-38 lead with 2:57 left in regulation before Olson answered with a 3-pointer to bring the Chiefs within two. Rathbun tied the game with 20 seconds left to force overtime.

The game was tied at 47 with 1:37 left in overtime before Bellarmine’s Ciara Gatpatan scored on back-to-back possessions to give the Lions the 51-47 win. Moses Lake was outscored 8-4 in overtime.

Leora finished with 13 points, six assists and six steals. Rathbun finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end.

Moses Lake finished the state tournament in fifth for the third in the four seasons.
