Quincy Jackrabbits soccer

SUMNER – Quincy soccer finished second in the state tournament, falling 2-1 to defending state champions Archbishop Murphy in a shootout in the title game.

The Jackrabbits were coming off back-to-back shutout wins entering Saturday’s championship game and their defense held strong once again.

Quincy’s Kevin Rios gave the Jackrabbits a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute but Archbishop Murphy struck back four minutes later with a header past Quincy goaltender Johan Farias.

The game remained tied through two overtimes as Archbishop Murphy had several scoring chances but failed to capitalize.

Archbishop Murphy won the game on penalty kicks 4-3 to win back-to-back 2A state championships.

Quincy finished the year 16-5-3, going 7-2 in the Central Washington Athletic Conference.
