MOSES LAKE – The West squad scored 19 unanswered points in the second half to knock off the East 19-16 Friday in Moses Lake.
The 53rd annual East/West All-State football game returned to Lions Field for the third time in five years as the state’s top 3A and 4A seniors played their last high school game.
Neither offense could get going in the first half but the West looked to put the first touchdown on the board facing third-and-inches. Gonzaga Prep’s Taj Hoard turned the table, stripping the ball that was then picked up by Chiawana’s Trent Simpkins who returned it 99 yards for the touchdown.
Central Valley’s Ryan Rehkow hit a 48-yard field goal to give the East a 10-0 lead at half.
The West offense picked it up in the second half, scoring two touchdowns in the third quarter including an 11-yard catch from Michael Roth followed by a three-yard rushing touchdown later in the quarter from Darius Brown.
A safety on the first play of the fourth gave the West a 16-10 lead. A field goal capped off a 19-0 run for the West.
The one-yard rushing touchdown by East’s Jack Colletto with under six minutes left cut the deficit to 19-16 after a missed extra point.
Offensive lineman Auston Downs was the lone representative for Moses Lake High School. The Chiefs have had players selected for the game for five straight years.
