WENATCHEE – The Wenatchee AppleSox rallied to knock off the Port Angeles Lefties 8-7 Thursday to earn the three-game sweep.
Down 7-4 in the seventh, the AppleSox put two runs on the board and tied the game in the eighth before Evan Johnson drove in the game-winning run, his 34th RBI on the season on a double to the left-center gap. Johnson leads the West Coast League in RBIs.
Johnson finished the game going 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
Moses Lake native Hunter Boyd came away with a no-decision, allowing seven runs, six earned, including five in the second inning, while striking out eight. After allowing two runs in the fourth, Boyd threw three scoreless innings and retired eight of nine batters.
Wenatchee’s series sweep was the first the AppleSox this season and first home sweep since 2015.
The Applesox are home Friday and Saturday to face the River City Athletics. Both games start at 7:05 p.m. Saturday is also Fireworks Night.
