WENATCHEE - The Wenatchee AppleSox have kept their playoff hopes alive after Sunday’s come-from-behind win over the Walla Walla Sweets to take the series.
The AppleSox fell behind in the top of the first inning after two Walla Walla singles, and a throwing error by catcher Matt Reitano on an attempted pick off at first base.
With the score 3-1, Walla Walla in the top of the fifth, Wenatchee tied things up on the bottom of the fifth to even the score after Adrian Vela’s RBI single and a wild pitch.
In the sixth, the AppleSox scored two runs on a go-ahead RBI single for Matt Reitano and an RBI double for Jacob Prater.
The AppleSox added three runs in the eighth and held on for the 8-5 win despite Walla Walla’s rally late in the game.
Victoria and Bellingham both lost Sunday night, so the AppleSox moved to second place in the WCL North Second Half, just a half of a game behind Victoria, and one game ahead of the Bellingham Bells.
The AppleSox have the day off Monday and then play a three-game series against the Corvallis Knights who have the WCL’s best record, Tuesday-Thursday at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium in Wenatchee. All three games start at 7:05 p.m.
