WENATCHEE – The Wenatchee AppleSox were knocked off by Cowlitz Wednesday night as Hunter Boyd took his first loss on the season.
The Moses Lake native came into the game with a 3-0 record on the mound and came out strong Wednesday night, allowing just one hit and retiring eight straight batters entering the fourth inning. Cowlitz capitalized on two Wenatchee errors and two passed balls to take a 4-2 lead in the fourth.
The Black Bears added a run in the fifth off Boyd, who finished throwing five innings while allowing five runs, only two earned, and striking out seven. He now leads the West Coast League in strikeouts at 45.
Cowlitz would go on to hit three home runs in the next three innings and cruised to a 12-4 win.
AppleSox Evan Johnson added his league-leading 39th RBI on the year on a single in the third inning, and is now just nine RBIs away from the AppleSox single-season record.
The AppleSox wrap up the series against Cowlitz Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium in Wenatchee.
