MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Monsters went 5-0 to take top honors in the Little League Legends Youth Baseball Tournament over the weekend in Moses Lake.
The Monsters pounded NW Premier out of Idaho in to submission with 12 runs off 12 hits to take their opening game Friday by the 10-run mercy rule. Chance Conahan tossed a one-hit gem on the hill to pick up the win. Jackson Purcell, Zachary Washburn and Matthew Berg had two hits each in the game.
The team bats continued to sizzle in a 10-2 win over the Puyallup Cal Ripken All-Stars Saturday morning. David Prado struck out six over three innings of work to record the win on the bump. Jacob Martinez led the offensive attack with three hits in three plate appearances.
Carson Janke and Washburn combined for a one-hitter while fanning nine batters in a 5-1 win over the Wenatchee All-Stars to post the Monsters third win in a row. Cayden Hart had the hot stick for the Moses Lake going three-for-three at the dish.
The victory set up a semifinal game with the Ferndale All-Stars. It wasn't much of a contest as the Monsters crushed the team from the west side of the Cascades, 16-0. Gavin Bingham, Zane Harden, Prado, Conahan, Purcell, Washburn and Berg had multiple hits in the game.
The contest for all the marbles Sunday provided an opportunity for NW Premier to avenge its opening day loss to Moses Lake. But it wasn't in the cards as the Monsters cruised to an 11-5 win to claim the championship. The wins extend the teams’ win streak to 20 games.
The Monsters are back on the diamond this weekend for tournament action in Yakima. The team will end its season next weekend at the USSSA state tournament in Centralia.
