ONTARIO, Ore. – Big Bend baseball split a doubleheader against Treasure Valley behind a ninth inning grand slam in game two from Justin DeHoog.
Treasure Valley won the opening game 16-9 Saturday as the Vikings allowed 12 runs in the seventh inning. Big Bend entered the inning with an 8-4 lead. The Chukars collected 18 hits in the game.
Cody Banks led the Vikings with three RBIs and a run scored.
In game two, Treasure Valley battled back to tie the game at 3-3 in the sixth before taking a one-run lead in the seventh on a solo home run from Dylan Mansanzarez.
The Vikings loaded the bases in the top of the ninth and DeHoog came through, blasting a grand slam to give Big Bend a 7-4 lead.
DeHoog finished the game going 2 for 5 from the plate with five RBIs and two runs scored. Josh Kallstrom added two RBIs, going 4 for 5.
The Vikings improve to 21-17 overall, 9-15 in Northwest Athletic Conference play. They return home on Wednesday for a doubleheader against Wenatchee Valley. The opening game is set to start at 1 p.m.
